Toronto screening of the VIHsibilité compilation of video testimonials by people living with HIV

VIHsibilité (2000-2012) is a compilation of video testimonials by people living with HIV excerpted from a range of key films and videos produced in Quebec and Canada. Presented by the Testimonial Cultures project in collaboration with AIDS Action Now! (AAN!) and the Global Network of People Living with HIV Canada (GNP + CA), a screening of the compilation was held April 25 2014 at the Glad Day Bookshop in Toronto.

The Testimonial Cultures project has produced two video compilations that bring together testimonials by people living with HIV excerpted from Quebec and Canadian video and film produced between 1985 and 2012. The testimonials featured in these compilations deliver critical messages about discrimination, criminalization, the disclosure of a stigmatized identity, and community concerns. They also address hope, activism, solidarity, creativity, and the courage to tell one’s story.

Each compilation contains excerpts in English and French and is subtitled in both languages. The most recent compilation, VIHsibilité (2000-2012), was produced in 2013 and is now being distributed free of charge in DVD format for use in the context of educational, training and outreach activities.

The Toronto event was part of an effort to expand collaboration and dialogue across Canada and make the VIHsibilité compilation available to individuals and organizations in every region of the country.

AAN! is a community-based group engaged in the struggle against HIV/AIDS and committed to the empowerment of all people living with AIDS and HIV infection (PLWA/HIV) and all communities affected by the AIDS crisis. GNP+CA aims to address the global pandemic by creating and sustaining an active regional network of people living with HIV as the Canadian affiliate of the Global Network of People living with HIV (GNP+), an international network that advocates to improve the quality of life of people living with HIV.
